History

Used on roofs in Paris for over 200 years, firstly as part of Baron Hausmann’s rebuilding programme between 1853 and 1870, zinc now covers over 85% of all metal roofs in Paris.

Now

Zinc is among the most popular building metals used in construction today due to its distinctive appearance, low maintainance and sustainable properties. Architectural zinc is used today to protect the exterior of buildings in applications such as roofing, wall cladding, flashings, copings, rainwater goods, domes, spires and vaults.

Properties/applications

Zinc roofs are a good solution for buildings with challenging geometries, making it a number 1 option with archeticts when choosing building materials on very demanding projects. Zinc will form its own self protective ‘patina’ which develops as a result of exposure to the atmosphere. With an initial thickness of 0.7 mm, zinc is estimated to last over 80 years.
